Braine Abbatiale originally had 3 rose windows probably all of the same style and dating from the late C12. The
north and south roses still survive but their glass has either been lost or has been removed. The west rose was
lost during a remodelling of the facade in the C19. Prof Madeleine Caviness' thoughts on the original iconography of the south window suggest it was a tour de force reminiscent of the
rose at Lausanne.
