The Secret of the Rose
The four white doves seemed to emphasise this focus on the center. When I looked closer I suddenly realised it was not 4 doves but one seen from four directions: left, right, front, back. But then I noticed one of them was upside down and I took this to imply that this was the dove coming from below as well as above. Three dimensions were being hinted at and that the circle implied a sphere. However, I subsequently discovered that this inverted dove had been put in incorrectly after the War and after 1973 it was corrected! Maybe a glazier then had his own ideas as to how to arrange the doves! Nevertheless I feel that a sphere is still being implied and that the viewer is being invited to project his or her consciousness into the 'sphere' and then 'see' outwards. |
