Morley, St Matthew's

n.3 - The Robert Knaresborough window - return

A delightful tale about the local saint, Robert Knaresborough, who: (3a) shoots a deer whilst trespassing in a neighbouring park; (3b) the gamekeepers complain about him to the king; (3c) the saint defends himself to the king; (3d) the king tells him to put the deer into a pen, which he does; (2a) the keepers again plead with the king; (2b) the king announces that he will give the saint as much land as he can plough in a day; (2c) using a deer to pull the plough he does so (2d is something of a mystery).
