Senlis Cathedral

West facade - center portal

An early Gothic portal - c.1160-70 - with some remarkable carved figures in the archivolts which were formerly painted. The tympanum has a beautifully preserved Coronation of the Virgin with her death and resurrection or Assumption below on the lintel. The main figures are Old Testament figures. Above in the archivolts are figures belonging to the Tree of Jesse in the first three levels, and Old Testament figures in the outermost layer. Below them in the bas reliefs are scenes of the Works of the Months.
