The C15 south rose is sometimes called the "Rose
of Paradise", dedicated to the Glory of the Virgin Mary, as is so much of the decoration in the church (She
is represented over 100 times at Evreux!). At The Coronation depicted here she is surrounded by saints and Old
Testament personages (including Moses) and surrounded by a crown of cherubims with 6 wings, but most noticeably
God the Father, Christ to His right and the dove of the Spirit form a crown, accompanied by Marie Salome and her
2 children and to the left Marie-Cleophas and her 4 sons. Below are St John, St Lorris, St Catherine and St Barnabus.
The widow was rebuilt recently after being demolished by a violent summer storm. Another image Return Country: France, 27 Date: C15/20 Symmetry symbol: 10mm Symmetry comment: 10mm symmetry in a flamboyant leaf-like design |
