Return This is one of the small churches in Syria dating from beteen the 4th and 6th centuries. The oculus that used to be on the facade in the early part of the C20 has alas disappeared. This church or chapel probably dates from the 6th century. It is a kind of oculus. We don't know if it originally had glass - probably not, but it is strangely reminiscemt of the C12 oculi on the facade of St Gabriel Tarascon in France. link Geometric symbols and decorative carvings can be seen on many of these early Christian churches |
